Blog » Inspired to muck about

Having recently read Chris Clark’s post about customising netnewswire, I decided to have a play myself. I currently use David Watanabe’s NewsFire and so I had a root around. There is no theming system, as yet, but I poked around in the package to find that Contents:Resources:Themes:Default was filled with images, templates and stylesheets. Perfect.

First things first: back it up! Or at least be prepared for funkiness if it totally mushes up. That being said, I had no problems but you can’t be too careful. Right, within the “Default” folder you will find several files of which you want to play with four:

  • Item.Template
  • DateParentFooter.Template
  • DateFooter.Template
  • Style.css

How it looks after fiddling. The template files are basically HTML templates for all of the different sections of the application. The modifications I have made aren’t perfect and need tweaking a little. There is room for improvement. I welcome any suggestions and will re-publish any version changes if anyone wants to send them to me.

The files are available to download and play with.
