I’m trying to recall any other nation than Britain that has multiple countries. At the moment I can’t but I will tell you what irritates me:
The United Kingdom is not a country. Quite simple. If you wish to give me a list of countries to pick from then you should include England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. I rarely use UK in day-to-day speech. My nationality is British, my country of origin is England. The UK isn’t even a country for goodness sake; a quarter (technically) of its peoples live on an adjacent island. If you wish to prompt me to use UK as an option then be verbose about these things. Some facts:
- Great Britain (sometimes abbreviated to Britain) is the island consisting of the three countries England, Scotland, and Wales.
- British means that you are from Great Britain
- The United Kingdom means what it says. A kingdom united.
- The English people speak English.
- Wales and Scotland are countries.
- Welsh, Scottish and English people are British.
- There is no British accent because British people come from one of three countries.
- Terms and conditions apply. Facts subject to change at any time (due to the cosmopolitan cities of Britain).
